I’ve begun making price tags for all the paintings that
we’ll have hanging at the upcoming festival. That way no one will have to ask, they can simply look at
the tag.
Here’s a brief how-to on achieving this look
Materials
Palette paper (or wax paper, craft sheet, something to put
the ink on)
Watercolor paper (you can use card stock or other sturdy
paper, like grunge paper. This is what I had on hand that would stand up to the
water and ink)
Liquid Inks in various colors (I used distress ink with an
applicator. I chose colors that were coordinating – reds, oranges and yellows.)
Ink pads (I used teal and red for more detailed stamping)
Spray bottle with water
Stamps of various sizes and styles
Scissors, ribbon of coordinating color, craft knife
1) Apply a fair amount of liquid ink onto palette paper,
leave some space between colors
2) Pull paper through the ink
3) Spray paper with water to let ink run together and drip
all over the page
4) Let dry
5) Using the same color inks and begin stamping.
Some of my stamping was wet, which made for nice effects.
Layer stamps over others to create great interest. I used teal and dark red ink
pads to make more detailed and sharp stamping. I also didn’t re-load the stamp
immediately and continued to stamp until there was no more ink. This gave a
more distressed look, which I like.
6) Let dry.
7) Cut page into strips and then into smaller squares with
scissors.
I don’t have punches, but you could definitely use a punch
or crafty scissors for this part. My way was a tad labor intensive. Especially
rounding the corners with my scissors. The corners aren’t perfectly rounded. For
my next batch, I think I do want to invest in some punches or cute scissors.
7) I cut slits with a craft knife into the individual tags.
I definitely want to get a hole punch to make this bit easier. I thread my tiny
ribbon through the slit and tied the ends.
8) I’ll write my prices on the backs of the tags.
