I have so much going on, I nearly forgot about it. But when I got the email, scrolled through the blog post, and didn't see my name, I was upset. Then I went and looked at my painting that I did for the competition, and I see the joy I had when I made it, and I realized how very much I love it. It doesn't matter.
"Leap" I love this so much. |
As I was in the shower after I'd gotten the news, I told the universe -- hey, send me an agent who gets my work, who loves it and who wants to work with me. Lilla Rogers isn't the only art agent out there. And that's important to realize and know in my heart. I read her book, and I honestly wasn't wild about her style. In addition, I think I realized that I may not be ready to have a licensing deal.
For the competition, I think where I went wrong was not painting for the client -- Paperchase. I painted for me, and they have a very kitschy style that is so not what I do. And that's the piece I was missing -- creating not just to the brief, but also to the client. Lesson learned for next time.
My birthday is coming up, and I've requested Kelly Rae Roberts' e-course/book -- all 3 phases. She talks about everything under the sun, including how to get licensed and move your work forward. I'm super excited. I have also requested mountains of art supplies, which will be hella fun.
