This is incredibly inspiring and hits home for
me. It’s the latest Dove campaign using an FBI artist and women describing their
faces to the artist.
Then, complete strangers describe the women to the FBI
artist. The differences are dramatic.
They show how critically we see our own faces and bodies. It
is a fantastic representation of the pressure women feel and how empowering it
can be to let go of our inner critics. Surrender to love and be gentle with
ourselves. Treat ourselves as we would a best friend.
I am consistently working towards higher self-esteem, and
always thought I had to eliminate or get over all the things I don’t like about
myself. But my most recent meeting with my therapist revealed that I only have
to have a longer list of the things I like about myself.
For me, this is a revolutionary idea. I can still not like
something about me, but if my “likes” of myself are more plentiful, the bad (to
me) things don’t carry nearly as much weight.
Powerful stuff.
I'd love to do that! I haven't see the campaign but I think it probably includes women of all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. Which is good, because every woman feels that she has flaws. I wonder if men have this same distorted self image? I would imagine it is mostly women.
