2/30 – 30x30 project

This one was started with leftover paint from the poppies one. I love this quote and I wanted to use some of my “thickers” letter stickers for it. But, I didn’t have the same size for all the letters, nor the same colors. So I had to paint the black ones white and then paint them red. I used stamps for the background and some ink too. I like the font on the “heart” section, but this one isn’t doing much for me either.

1/30 - 30x30 project

This was my first one. I started out with the poppy sticker and other paper, coated them with decoupage and then painted them. I’m not a huge fan of this one…I think it’s because the colors don’t really do much for me. Love the poppies, though.

Challenge Accepted! 30 paintings in 30 Days...

Last post I talked about starting a project like what I saw on Mae Chevrette’s blog. 30 paintings in 30 days. I was very inspired to stretch myself into new and different techniques and mediums. So I began on Dec. 15th, and hopefully will be done by Jan. 15th.

Here are my goals:
1. COLOR: I want to gain a better understanding of color. Stretch myself to use different colors that I may not be comfortable with right now. Use more than one or two colors on a painting (I tend to stick to few colors, but most of the painters/artists I like use a lot more than that. I want to figure out how to do this, too.)
2. EPHEMERA: Use the materials and things I’ve collecting so far in my studio that I may not actually use in one of my canvas pieces. Learn not to be “precious” and “save” things for that painting “one day.” Use it now, enjoy it now.
3. TYPE: Experiment with hand-lettering and learning typefaces and how to make the font look great by hand, not printing it out or stamping it.
4. DRAWING: Stretch your drawing muscles Also work on shading and understanding light sources.
5. LAYOUTS: try new layouts, techniques, media. Don’t be scared.
6. Don’t think. Do.
7. Make lots of mistakes!

I’m super excited about what this will teach me. I bought 2 small mixed media sketchbooks for this project. So they aren’t canvas, they are paper.  I don’t know much about working on paper, so this should be fun!

inspiration, an idea for a project...

So I’m inspired. Mae Chevrette is an artist I follow and she started a project of 30 new paintings in 30 days in the summer. Her paintings were on water color paper. And I find that I’m all kinds of inspired based on this project and a list of quotes from her followers. I’ve collected my favorites into a word doc and I want to use them.  So I’m thinking that maybe I want to do something like the 30x30 that Mae did?

New Painting: Be Gentle With Yourself.

After the jump is the progression of this painting from start (ish) to finish. I sold the original in Savannah (recap coming soon for that festival) over the weekend, thought I forgot to scan it and I'm so glad I was wrong. I DID scan it for prints before we left. whew! Prints are available in my shop.

New painting: A Holiday Wish

This 6x6 painting went very fast. It was mostly done the last time I posted. I only added the holly/berries and I’m calling it!

In-progress: merry merry and all that good stuff

I love the teal and silver on this one. I began with a paper stencil (fyi, they have laser cut scrapbook paper out there that you can use as stencils, which is what I did here. However, it’s a good idea to seal the paper with something like decoupage before you start.) and molding paste. I wanted the swirly bits raised. I know it’s not a perfect round ornament, but I kind of love it anyway.

I need to add a quote and some other details and I’ll call this one done.
